The Car Owners and Maintenance Guide
Accident Information
Whenever you are involved in a motor vehicle collision you must give all other parties involved particulars of your registration number, your name and address and your licence number.  You should also obtain these particulars from all parties for your own reference.

When police should attend the accident scene
1)When any person is killed or injured
2)When there is damage, in excess of $500, to property other than the vehicles concerned.
3)If any driver involved leave the scene of the collision without exchanging particulars.
4)If any driver involved in the collision is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
5)        If any vehicles involved needs to be towed away.

In these instances the Police will complete an accident report form and wil1 fine the offending driver.

When police won't attend the accident scene
If none of the above conditions exist police will not attend.  However the accident still must be reported by attending any police station and completing a Self Reporting Motoring Collision Form (P5 Form) as soon as possible and within 24 hours.  After completion you will receive the duplicate copy of this form for your records.

Things to consider
All accidents must be reported to police by law (by either of the above methods) unless the total accident damage is apparently less than $500. Even if damage is less than $500 you must still supply your particulars to the other parties by law.

If you must leave the scene of a collision (where police should attend) before the Police arrive because you are urgently required elsewhere, you are not breaking the law if you leave after exchanging your particulars with all parties involved and have ensured you have rendered all necessary assistance to any person who may have been injured.

You may contact any police station by dialling 9281 0000 and asking for the relevant police station.  If it is an emergency situation ring 000 and ask specifically for ambulance and/or police to attend.

If however, your car needs to be towed then call TOWS'R'Us on 0419 447 032. Your car will be towed to Rigoli Smash Repairs, Bexley.
